Article 15: The Wizard of Oz Metaphors

A person in a borderline relationship occasionally finds their BPD partner operating in a delusional world where facts are created to justify emotions. The "Oz" metaphor is used to characterize this departure from reality.

An individual in a borderline relationship often finds themselves confronted with rage and turmoil, and then accepting these delusional facts as real trying to deal with them. The cyclone metaphor depicts the turmoil and acceptance.

Wizard of Oz metaphors are playfully used on some web sites to characterize the relationship dynamics of those in a relationship with a BPD. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz (circa 1900) is a classic in children’s literature.
