HELPING OTHERS - The Ultimate Thank You

We are the BPDFamily.com grasshoppers - hopping from board to board helping new members.

The most practical part of providing education and support to family and friends of individuals with BPD is to get the people involved in the process, and that's what we do.

We have some great resources on this website but we all know that quality of those first interactions that make the difference.

If you're new and you have a question - just ask!

What can FTF members do to help us?

Help us deliver our welcome message to Newbies.

1 We Care
2 We Understand
3 You Can Improve Your Situation

And then Ask Questions!

Engage in a dialogue right away. At this early stage it's much more important to ask questions than to answer them. Get the basics - age, marital and living status, kids, length of relationship - and what they need or hope to accomplish. Try to resist the temptation to post advice in the beginning or provide pat answers - better to provide introductions to the process - most matters are a lot more complex than a 2 paragraph answer.

Be Open Minded - most people in difficult relationships want to "stay in the relationship" when they arrive here. This is mostly true of people with difficult parents or children. Establishing trust and that we are not judgmental is an important thing on day one. There will be plenty of time to work through the issues once the trust and confidence is established.
